Recycled Style Project: Just Dance…
July 28, 2011
Dancing is a fantastic way to have fun while getting fit and with so many styles of dance to choose from, there really is something for everyone. In the US, July 30th has been declared National Dance Day (but there is no reason not to embrace it internationally) and So You Think You Can Dance has posted three different routines online to help you celebrate no matter what your skill level.

I am a fan of dance shows, not just because of the incredibly talented athletes and awe-inspiring choreography, but also for the dramatic costuming. Dance costumes have the ability to take on a life of their own once they hit the dance floor.  They are not only designed to capture our attention, but they are specifically created to enhance the kinds of movement featured in each of the styles. For example, Latin routines feature fringed costumes to emphasize every shake of the dancer’s body.

In honor of National Dance Day, celebrate the movement of dance, but also pay homage to the artistry of the costuming by incorporating a little shimmy into your wardrobe with this easy DIY project. Inspired by the Cha-Cha, just sew some dramatic fringe onto a mini that’s resting in the back of your closet. That’s it! Style it according to your individual taste and rock it ’cause your hips can’t lie.

And just in case you aren’t in the mood yet for a little Latin heat, watch this Samba routine.
Until next time, keep dancing like you really don’t care if anyone is watching…
