Fashion Dare: You, Just Brighter!

Most of us are too comfortable and rely heavily on black and other neutrals to take us through our lives. Black will always be there for you, like a lifelong BFF, but every now and then, it is important to make new friends who surprise you, who teach you things you don’t already know about yourself, who nudge you away from your safety zone and who encourage you to stand (way) out from the crowd.
Meet your new favorite summer pal, Brights!

If going crayon-crazy overnight makes you feel like Dorothy waking up to the strange Technicolor land of Oz, then just take it slowly by incorporating a single bright into your regular dressing routine. Besides, even if you fall head over heels with the new electric palette, you will want to keep your loyal neutrals close, after all, sometimes we all need our oldest and most faithful friends.

Want to tap into a vibrant spectrum, but looking at your closet in the morning feels a lot like getting your television stuck on the channel that only plays old black and white movies? Â Then it is time to send yourself on a shopping mission, armed with a one-track mind and a pre-determined budget, there is just one imperative rule: you may only buy something in a shockingly vibrant hue.

Too short on green to really crank the wattage on your sartorial brights? Tap into your creative genius and pick up an affordable pack of vibrant dyes to inject fluorescents into the tired basics you already own.  Or try your hand at some exciting designer inspired DIY projects with help from some of the best crafty fashionistas online. Inspired by Tom Binns,  Glitter ‘n Glued shows us how to update boring jewelry with just a bottle of neon nail polish. Who What Wear and P.S. I Made This join forces to bring you a cheap, yet chic version of Marni’s friendship bracelet and Style Hurricane gets us all headed to the organic farmers market in fashion with a high-voltage Jil Sander inspired bag tutorial.

So if you haven’t already, I dare you to invite a few boldly tinted pieces into your next ensemble.
Already no stranger to a brightly pigmented palette? I dare you to put together an entire outfit (yes, head to toe) without utilizing a single neutral (yeah, right down to your underwear, why not?)

I adore the bright trend for summer! Really great example here! Thank you so much for your wonderful comment on the boyfriend Project! I think having your friend dress you is a great idea!
I am loving the Rachel Roy looks! I am making an effort to embrace colors right now— wish me luck!
My hand flies up. I’m not one to do brights and neons. Even the new color direction at Hermès (their scarves) can’t make me see the light on brights. When I want a dose of color in my wardrobe, I generally pull out a garment I purchased in India.
You were rockin the super-brite-lites at the CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale today, even down to the shoe laces- and looked awesome!
I’m forever trying to incorporate more color in my wardrobe- these are great tips!
Welcome back! xx
Josy – Thanks!
Gotta walk the walk, right?
I’m loving this trend. The runway-style all-brights look is a little less wearable, but pairing a bright with a neutral like white, brown or navy is where it’s at!!
Love,
CarolAnn
PS. I’ve got a confidence-report contest up on my blog!! Check it out…
